Responsibility was assigned to operators in the region, to quote: “Operators who will initiate the project and form the lead consortium comprising Telkom Kenya, Tanzania Telecom Company Limited , Uganda Telecom, MTN International, Zanzibar Telecom Company (ZANTEL) - the leading telecom service providers, Nation Media Group and data operators”
Two months later in January 2003, Telkom Kenya Limited hosted the first meeting in Nairobi Kenya which kick started the project.
Two further meetings later, in January 2004 the first Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) meeting was held in Gaborone , Botswana .
EASSy is being developed by telecom operators in the region with international gateway licenses and other development partners referred to as Developmental Financial Institutions- DFI's. Some International carriers e.g. British Telecom , France Telecom e.t.c are also members o the consortium (REFER to list Below).
The following parties signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of the EASSy system and are Party to the EASSy Construction and Maintenance Agreement (C&MA) which became effective on 14 th March 2008 thus ending the MOU phase. The following is a list of EASSy investors.
